That's some real Southern heat right there. Buuut, if I can manage this crap for a few months, a week or so shouldn't be that bad. Taking necessary precautions is key!

The national weather service in mount holly has issued an
excessive heat warning...which is in effect from noon thursday to
8 pm edt saturday. The excessive heat watch is no longer in
effect.

* heat index values...around 105 degrees thursday...near 110
degrees friday...and between 105 and 110 degrees saturday.

* timing...peak heat index values will occur during the afternoon.
Right now...the worst conditions are expected friday afternoon.

* impacts...the combination of heat and humidity will create
dangerous heat index values...especially friday afternoon.
I'm liking this.

I sincerely hope there aren't any casualties or injuries though, this is always the worst part about extreme weather.

This July is fairly stinky but at least it is better than two recent examples so far.

Average maximum temperature for July 2011, 1st - 21st: 17.7°C / 63.9°F

Average maximum temperature for July 2008, 1st - 21st: 16.6°C / 61.9°F

Average maximum temperature for July 2007, 1st - 21st: 16.2°C / 61.2°F

We've had a streak of 19 consecutive days of temps over 100, with no relief in sight. Lows in the 80s - can't cool off.

Those temps look absolutely perfect to me! Actually I wouldn't mind even cooler temps.

I just keep wishing it was in the 50s in the mornings like "average". But it was nice to go to Pikes Peak in 45°F weather one day. It was nice. The storms also help cool us off. But we shouldn't get that today or tomorrow. They show next week Friday and Saturday cooler, wonder if that's a cool front, or just the natural cooling down of summer up here?

We're getting a lot of cold night time temperatures here in the Peak District.

The average low for July is just a shade under 50°F so far. This looks to continue. Whoa. Just looked at my weather station and it's already down to 46°F at 12:25AM.

There's a possibility that a tornado touched down here yesterday during a wild thunderstorm. A couple branches came down in my yard and on the road, but apparently parts of town had some major damage.

Summer 2011 has been average besides one week in July where temperatures did not rise above 15C (59F). Some cold nights too, down to 6C (42F) here but some places near by reporting ground frost and for July it's unusual sight to say the least.

I can't wait for the fall. I've always preferred the cool/cold weather any day over the heat. At least when it is cold you can breathe, when it is hot and humid (the way it has been for many this summer of 2011) you can't breathe. It feels like there is an elephant sitting on your chest. There is no air, the air feels very heavy and that's not healthy especially for people who have problems with their respiratory system. I'm an asthmatic and it has been terrible for me. I've always looked forward to the fall because of the beautiful colors and the cool, crisp air but this year I am counting the days to feel cool and dry again. Stay cool everyone and be careful out there. Drink alot of water!!!
