Another oddity is that in parts of the Chinese / Russian border just north of Vladivostok you can cross from China into Russia going west and have to put your watch forward by three hours as if it was 45 degrees to the east.
Western Chinese border with Afghanistan, its 3.5 hours. It would be nice to step one of your foot on China (+8) and the other on Afghanistan (+4.5)
