Which would you choose?

Thursday Island, Queensland - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

San Juan, Puerto Rico - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I'd choose Thursday Island I think because it has a more pronounced dry season plus being at 10 degrees from the equator, would be less likely to be hit by a cyclone/hurricane.

This is hard, because I might be biased, but I pick San Juan because the rain is more evenly distributed across the year. There's nothing like a nice soaking tropical rain to cool down the heat (temporarily). Regarding hurricanes, last time Puerto Rico got hit directly, besides Irene, was around 1999. Puerto Rico usually either gets the tail end of hurricanes, or nothing

San Juan is pretty much my dream climate (second only to Natal, Brazil) so I'll obviously go for it

I'm biased towards the Carib anyway cause I think it has the best tropical climates on the planet, combined with beautiful, warm seas. To me the two climates are just about identical temp wise when you get those kinds of winter temps. The game changer for me is the deadly critters in the water at Thursday Island. PR has really warm, relatively safe seas all year round. I go with San Juan.

You bring up an interesting point.. why do you suppose the tropical seas in Australia tend to have more "deadly" creatures than the Caribbean? The Caribbean waters are just as warm if not warmer than Australian tropical waters.. there must be more to it than meets the eye.

Dunno, something to do with evolution I guess. Lots of nasty things trying to kill each other. I don't recall ever hearing of a beach in the Carib that required protective netting for bathers.

I like precipitation variability so Thursday Island looks better to me.
