Temperatures in the United states, rise and drop quickly.

Unlike Europe, the USA is a big chunk of land so any cold spells that come have no water to go over, which in essence means less moderation.

Exactly. As Owen hinted, it might get down to freezing in Florida this time of year, but rest assured it will rise to at least 65F during the day and quickly be back to 70's and 80's later in the week. At least under normal conditions. If there's January 2010-type cold in Florida then it's quite a bit cooler, but still nothing even remotely resembling a real winter climate.

It did get cold in interior north Florida last night...but I don't think it fell below freezing anywhere. It would be RARE to see a freeze even in far north Florida before the end of November. Also, keep in mimd that those lows are fairly extreme this time of year in Florida - close to 10 F below normal. These are the departures for yesterday/this morning:

Of course your'r right about how fleeting the cold can be in Florida...north Florida might see 30's and low 40's for a few nights sometime in November...then a long streach of lows in the 50's and 60's and highs in the upper 70's and 80's. So I agree with you there as well - a few hrs of 30's or 40's once or twice a month is hardly a winter - lol:

Yes.

I keep track of temps in Florida (because family live there) and temps in the 30's and 40's in November are cold for them. The normal low temps in North Florida look like this. Normally most locations in the far north of Florida have lows of 50 F or above:

High/low Place
76 50 Gainesville
74 48 Glen St. Mary
74 51 Jacksonville
73 57 Jacksonville Beach
74 51 Lake City 23 11
76 50 Live Oak 25 10
79 54 Ocala 26 12
75 57 St. Augustine

By December the lows fall into the upper 40's in some areas, though the coastal areas still have lows in the lower 50's I think

I was saying it in the sense that it might happen and occasionally does happen. After all, most Florida locations have recorded a November freeze at some point.

I finally got my new digital cam so took some pics too.

Today was nice - sunny and highs in the 55 F range. The air was dry and it feels like a typical late fall day here. This is the lighthouse and pics of sand left in the street from Hurricane Sandy in coastal Connecticut:

You got me on that one I'll have to check (you have me curious).

My guess is there is likley no record of November freeze in south/and some central Florida locations...but I'm sure far north Florida locations have had a freeze at some point in November; By month's end normal lows are in the 45 - 50 F range in places like Ocala and up in the Panhandle...and the mean freeze date in these areas is something like November 28th or so. So by the last days of November parts of interior far north Florida climatoligically see a freeze.
