Seeing that map, I can't help but feeling sorry for heat lovers in Cherbourg, if there are any. It's been quite a bit cooler than NI lately.

Yes, but it seems there is also a cooling effect from the west on the welsh side.
The same way, the coasts of the Manche (Channel) in northern Britanny and Normandy always have much cooler temperatures then inland.
