BDR has had more snow the past 5 winters than the entire decade of the 1980s! And this winter just got started.
Obviously those 2 winters in 2011 & 2013 added to it, but even 2003, 04, & 05 had 4 feet + of snow. Seems like we're getting a lot of snow past 10 years!
Merry Christmas. This will be part of the dinner conversation for me.

80s were awesome in my area, snowfall has been going down from there
Sometimes we forget what Ice Storms can do with just over 1/2" of ice. This was the scene in many areas from Toronto to northern NY, Vermont and into Maine.
Can't expect utility crews to start repairing right away. First comes assessment & inspection, then comes gathering the right material, then comes the work itself but even the first step is hard to do with ice and snow on the roads. What a storm
And the most unfortunate thing is that people are without power without backups and its going to get cold!
Fortunately we did not loose power or get damage to our trees, although many of our neighbours did. We did lose internet/cable for over a day though.
We still have about 3" of snow from 1.5 weeks ago which is not caked in ice. The vast majority of the ice is still on the trees and has just gotten a bit of snow added to it... The sun is out but it's 16F so I'm not sure when the ice will melt since it's supposed to be cold from now on. There's still trees dangling dangerously over power lines so hopefully it melts before we get any wind (which we fortunately have not gotten much of).

Good to hear you remained with power. Yeah those low voltage lines are thinner and can't carry the weight of a powerline. I know the feeling about the race between the wind and the melting.

Interesting. You can almost capture the overall patterns with comments like this. More winter coastals recently but in the 1980s more inland tracks which favored you more than here.
"There is a MAJOR storm raging over Europe right now (for my fellow weather geeks: the pressure dropped to 934.5 mb!). Winds have gusted to 109 mph, there's flooding, loss of life...terrible conditions. Perspective shows just how far-reaching a storm can be: moisture from this UK storm (the swirl to the upper right) has a connection to what was Winter Storm Gemini in the U.S. (east coast clouds). Amazing. (pic via Living Earth App)"
In Paris, the surface wind was lower than predicted. Maximum gust of 87 km/h (54 mph) at Orly airport and 100 km/h (62 mph) at CDG airport. Though clouds were moving fast this morning, up to 133 km/h (83 mph) at the summit of the Eiffel tower.
In France, the highest winds at sea level were record at Gatteville lighthouse, Normandy, with 148 km/h (92 mph).
In the Pyrenees, up to 228 km/h (142 mph) at Iraty (1,300 m / 4,350') and 287 km/h (178 mph) at the Pic du Midi (2,900 m / 9,450').
