2 lines far apart = DRY. Except where they get closer at 400mb. That's some very high scattered thin clouds typical of High Pressure about 25,000 feet up
Record breaking cold, for this time of year, in Saskatchewan yesterday
Wow, those records look kind of soft to be honest. Here's some low temperatures around Alberta yesterday:
Red Deer: -32.2C
Edson: -33.2C
Edmonton Airport: -33.6C
Grande Prairie: -33.6C
Sundre: -33.7C
High Level: -34.3C
Grande Cache: -36.0C
Not sure if any of these are records. The Edmonton one is not a record.
Thankfully it's warmed up a bit but now there's a snowfall warning in effect:

Snowfall warning for
City of Edmonton - St. Albert - Sherwood Park continued
10 to 20 centimetres of snow by Friday morning.
An area of heavy snow over West-Central Alberta is expected to produce total snowfall accumulations of 10 to 20 centimetres by Friday morning. However, embedded bands of heavier snow are likely, which may produce locally higher amounts up to 30 centimetres.
The town of Peace River is not expected to receive heavy snow, however towns to the south can expect 10 centimetres or more.
Snow will taper off Friday morning as the system weakens.
The model that was sliding south with next weeks storm has come around to other models and did a complete 180. Brings the storm north. Not good for travelers if this happens. Major snowstorm north of I90 Wednesday into Thursday morning.
Snow totals from the latest GFS. HUGE turnaround. Still got LOTS of time to watch this and see what the future updates show.

Well if true it certainly shows whose province is the coldest!
All I know is that my son is a geologist (wellsite) who is very grateful he headed out of Whitecourt just as the cold front was moving in (and for a change he missed travelling in the snowstorm).
Truly I don't remember getting this cold this early (maybe in the 70's but....)
