Wow, as bad as it is here, it's even worse in eastern MA and southeastern NH! I assume that 59 in NH is an error. (Or the top of a mountain, conceivably, but I don't see why that would be included on a map like this.)
Yep, that's Mt Washington. Official station so they include on map. Only shown with that zoom level or closer.
For northern CT...
BDL max temp so far is 87°F.
Last time they were warmer than 86° after September 27th was in 2007. Then back in 2002. Not often its this warm this late
Storms training over western Florida heading slowly off to the NNW. Webcam got a cool underside shot from Bradenton:
Looks like nearly full coverage on the Gulf side:
Those clouds look scary
Why does it seem there is always thunderstorms and tropical squalls off New Orleans- lol. I remember years ago I took a Royal Caribbean cruise from Tampa to Cozumel, Mexico and the thunderstorms were worse in the southern Gulf than in Mexico!
Awesome 6:45am view from Ridgefield, CT webcam showing the pink/red sunrise and the fog. Calm winds. Warm morning 59°F. (about 20 minutes north from me)
Check out #2. Blocking High pressure extending all the way to Arctic. BIG BLOCK! Guess where the Polar Vortex goes? Into Canada. (remember timing is insane, it could of gotten stuck on the other side of the block (Europe)
#1 the ridge in the West isn't even that amplified (doesn't peak north much) but because of the blocking over Arctic and Greenland the PV and trough dig way down in the East. Not insanely cold this time of year but this is a very cold look if happens in Winter.
Then look at the GFS and Canadian to the right, not as bad as what the Euro says. Middle image shows disconnect of warmth in Arctic and the PV near the Poles instead of in Canada. Canadian doesn't have block over Greenland and have the trough axis straight more over Mississippi Valley.
Temp at Billings Montana yesterday ranged just 4 degrees:
High of 49F and low of 45F.
That 4 degree range Only happens about 2 times per year on average.
