Which climate do you prefer, A mild summer climate with brief episodes of extreme heat followed by consistent winters, or a sub tropical climate with consistently hot & humid summers prone to occasional cold snaps in winter.

Melbourne:

Atlanta:

I prefer Atlanta. Though Melbourne has a far more tolerable summer climate, the blah winters make me steer far from it. What good is winter without snowy places nearby. In ATL, at least you can drive up to the smokies for snow.

Why no Wikipedia tables?

I'd go for Melbourne for no sustained summer heat and less humidity. Atlanta seems a bit continental for my taste with its slightly cold winters.

For me, Melbourne has one of the best oceanic climates witch I am more used to (though Heatwaves look deadly!), and Atlanta has more of a continental climate (I think, correct me if I'm wrong?) witch I don't like. So it has to be Melbourne, though I'm perhaps a little biased as Melbourne is closer to the sea, so with heatwaves - one can cool off...

Atlanta isn't all that cold in winter, according to my perception. Average highs in mid January are kind of like mid November in CNJ.

I hear that many southerners love winter, because its a source of cool relief from long and brutal summers.

It's cold enough to kill off growing vegetation.

11C/1C is pretty cold.. compared to 8C/3C here much further north.

What makes it worse is that whilst May, June and September are nice.. the summer is just too humid

True, but the same happens in interior Southern Australia I suppose. Canberra is even colder than ATL in winter on average.
