Someone posted earlier about how they thought the polar vortex was getting stronger because of the colder winters. Wrong. Take a look a the difference between the SH vortex and the NH vortex. Incredible.
Look at small the attacks on the SH vortex are compared to the image above showing the NH vortex under constant warming and weakening attacks from Dec all the way thru till it breaks down in the Spring. On the other hand, the SH vortex thru their winter is powerfall and gets little attacks with very little SSW all winter long. Then the SH vortex finally breaks down well into Spring. The SH vortex is much much stronger.
