Syagrus romanzoffiana (Queen palms) are very hungry palms, they need very good soil & lots of water for optimum growth as they grow fast. Here you see some with yellow looking fronds that are not watered enough or given fertiliser. Even some young ones I have start going yellowy if I don't feed them enough...

Nowhere near cold enough to damage Queen palms.

Jubaea chilensis but it's not grown much in the south because the heat gets to it before the cold. I have heard of one in rock hill SC, which is just south of Charlotte nc, the palm reportedly is very tall and healthy and has survived many severe winters unprotected.

Yep Jubaea's don't like hot weather combined with high humidity & they hate warm nights. That's why they wont grow here too... I have a Jubutyagrus (JubaeaXButia x Syagrus) & even that gets some spotting on its fronds...

It's a shame that Jubaea chilensis is so slow growing (& consequently very expensive) as they grow really well in many parts of the UK, but it will be future generations that will benefit from planting one...

I agree, Daytona Beach has not fallen below 30F since 2011.

Don't they both grow in the UK?

Yes Jubaea chilensis & Butia odorata (formally known as capitata) both grow in the UK. Jubaea is hardier though, both are quite slow growing in the UK but Butia's are faster than Jubaea & are more widely available (& cheaper)...
