you can choose not to get involved in criminal gang activity, but you can not choose not to visit public spaces. therein lies the important difference.
You can choose not to have a gun in the US too, but it doesn't make much difference...
And that still goes to show that the problem is the amount of guns there & how easy the access is to them. Even in London it is rare to get gang related shootings...
problem is that they include family murders and gang-related murders in those numbers. that's not what the average joe would think of when he hears the term "mass-shooting". indiscriminate random killings at public places are much rarer. perhaps 10 occurences/year or so. so not that frequent for a country with a population of 320 000 000.
I can assure you they're much more common than that. This country has a serious problem, one that virtually no one in a position of power wants to seriously address. It's always "praying for the victims" or "my thoughts are with the families" but no action, and then the media "forgets" about it until the next tragedy, either that or another mass shooting takes attention away from the previous one.

It's disgusting.

It's ridiculous. It's the kind of statistic I'd expect in some war torn third world country, but certainly not in apparently the richest and most powerful country in the world.
Marianne Miettinen, a long-lasting coach of the women's youth national football teams was as an commentator at the France - Romania match. Some forums, the YLE website and social media attacked her. While maybe rightfully criticising Miettinen's articulation, pretty much the main point of the loud majority was that women should stay in the kitchen and who is this b*tch commenting on a men's football match.
And this is coming from the country which ranks at #2 in global gender equality. Sad.
Not even close. Go to an actual third world country and the "hoods" here will look like a good part of town in comparison.
I have passed through Camden many times (especially by train) -- it's hard to look any worse than that.
