Perhaps because they are three distinct climates (equatorial, continental and subtropical).

I think the OP should've done a few more - He should've provided a desert, oceanic and a subarctic example.

Sydney, by a country mile, then Chicago with further daylight to Singapore.
Not into extreme continental climates, and even less so hot, humid tropical.

Chicago because Sydney's summers are underwhelming and Singapore is awful as usual. Also Chicago has more interesting weather with snow added to the mix.
