Did it melt in above-freezing temperatures or did it just evaporate? The latter seems a bit unusual since Zagreb has had 17 days with snow cover so far this month and the amount of snow on the ground isn't changing at all despite sunshine and occasional highs above freezing.

Temps below -5c are sufficient for rapid sublimation of snow. Never seen snow sublime entirely but have been witness to 4/5 inches subliming in 2/3 days in 2010.

Total I'd say 30 days more or less so far.
We got about 15 cm on snow on Saturday, January 7, and it remained pretty stable due to anomalously low temperatures until the end of the day on Tuesday, January 10. It mostly melted overnight into the 11th as a warm front moved in. Other than that, there was a snow event that left a little cover for a bit of the day on December 17. And on January 5 got some snow, and we still had a snow cover on the 6th, and a tiny bit was left on the 7th at which point the aforementioned fresh snow fell.

It was 2-3 C but without any sun burning. That was what surprised me a bit, usually it lasts 24 hours longer than it did this time. Perhaps it was the hour-long 5C bursts that happened in between the 2-3 C temps...

Owen has been keeping his thermometer in the fridge again I see

This is his nearest Met Office weather station, only a couple of miles away from where he lives:

Norilsk sounds like an atrocious place to live. From what I read it seems like the worst part is that Norilsk prices and wages are so low that whoever is born there pretty much has no way of escape from that hellhole
