Where does Leeds have land to build on? Is this on the outskirts? I would have assumed it's mostly built out.
It's on the egde of the city centre, and at the moment it's just a big grassy area next to the river that serves no real purpose.
The city centre is almsot fully developed, but to the south of the city centre there is industrial land earmarked for development. For that skyscraper, a building already there will be demolished. It's ugly anyway (the entire area is pretty ugly actually, architecturally speaking).

That hotel is quite bad IMO, the materials look cheap. I should know because a lot of crap like that exists here.
Although on looking at it more closely, it isn't terrible and I've seen a lot worse. And always good to see former industrial areas put to good use.
Here, a 40 storey building has been submitted for planning permission, and it would become not only the tallest building in Leeds but also the entire region. On SSC it's been described as 'Manhattan-like' because it is tall and slender, like a lot of the skyscrapers being built in New York (but the ones in NY are much taller of course).
Yes, that might be, but I assume that the hotel will be well maintained. Not a architectural masterpiece, but a good paveway to further development. Though one has to remember that Finland has very little experience in building +12 storey buildings.
The Hotel Torni (Tower) in Tampere is neither anything fancy. But Tampere has very ambitious high-rise plans.
Meanwhile, that proposal in Leeds looks AWESOME! I'd love to see that in Helsinki, Turku or Tampere. Manhattan came immediately into my mind too.
And nice to see old industrial areas brought to new life indeed. Often those are brutal city life destroyers.
The old diesel engine factory at the riverfront in Turku is soon finished. Almost all flats sold. And they aren't cheap.
I've noticed that European posters tend to avoid the Autumn thread. Is it too North American focused for you guys? The only Euro poster on there is Rozenn.

It is. I don't want to say anything bad, but the sheer amount of posts makes one post about Europe get lost in the massive amount of NA posts, making it very difficult to reply in.

The Autumn thread has become the North American thread, and the Europe posts are all in their own thread. I never liked the separate Europe thread. Having a Europe thread means the Autumn thread gets few European posts, which leads to less posts... downward cycle

I posted a few pics in the Autumn photo thread, but once that and the Autumn thread started getting spammed with frost maps by Cambium et al, I decided to leave you guys to it.
I think a lot of posters here are too centered on just one area of the world. Diversify, we live in a world full of an amazing variety of weather!
