I think the sun in continental northern hemisphere locations is quite weak per the latitude. I certainly remember thinking that the sun in the US felt weak during my time there, and people from northern climes comment on the strength of winter sun in NZ.

Sydney would be the same.

Sure if 5 months of highs 32C+ is short to you.
