it is not a question of right or wrong, but when you got nothing to eat and little hope in having better living condition in the next decade, somehow believing that everything will be allright in the afterlife is somehow a nice thought and the best cure for depression.

I mean, most people probably stopped believing in Jesus once they had nice meals on a daily basis and a PS2.

Not a justification, but an explanation. Religion was the "logical" way people found solace when there was nothing else.

Some call it a slave religion. Because it says to be content with your ****ty conditions rather than taking the initiative and making the most of the one life you'll ever have.

I think being religious is fine as long as your entire life does not revolve around it. I also think religion has great cultural value, maintaining religion is important even if just in name, for the sake of cultural heritage

The Bible and the Quran both belong in Museums, not in schools and next to people's beds.

Religion is brainwashing, progress halting, ancient, made up crap that has no place in modern society and has caused the loss of countless lives, oppressed millions, and made countless people suffer. Now I have no problem with believing in a higher power, or being moderate in your views or celebrating the holidays and traditions of a religion. Fundamentalists of any religion are a cancer though.

Yup, religious fundies suck. If you think religion is worth killing over, start with yourself

24C earlier this evening and out on the bike looking to find the route between the two Runtuna-bound roads in the inland rural area of the municipality. It was one hell of a journey. I got stuck at a gate that seemed iron-tight with fencing around it as it turned out 100 metres from an access road I was looking for so I had to travel back through that rocky road and find another one, net extra ride 6 km longer

It was a nice temp but that ride didn't work out so well

believing god will help you also made some people do great things. Also, the protestant work ethic probably rings a bell to someone here.
