From earlier this week.
2hr drive south from Trondheim, still in this region, but also in the mountain valleys of central Norway, Trollheimen mt range. Much of this range is protected as national park or nature reserves.
Hiking up to a mountain.
The summit is 975 m asl
View towards Lake Gjevil in the valley
There are farms here at 700 m asl (lifestock, some vegetables). At the outer seaboard at this latitude, this would be well above the treeline. This valley has a continentality (OC - instersection oceanic-continental ccording to national atlas) much higher than the coast.
Getting down to Lake Gjevil and look at this
The white sand on the beach was soft as powder
And look at the view looking W toward the center of Trollheimen
Walking towards NE, the beach must be several km long. People where sunbathing, playing volleyball and the kids bathed, but the water was cold, still melting snow from the mountains around. The lake is 650 m asl.
This beautiful beach is named Raudøra
The water was very clear
Walking to the other end of the beach
A river emptied into the lake near a little cliff
Climbing up on the cliff revealed that two rivers meet just before they emptied. Very clear water in the rivers

beautiful photos. That image with a river emptying the lake looks very wild. Surprised there's any agriculture at 700 m; season must be very short with very deep snow. Sky is a very nice deep blue.

Arctic blue sky. I liked that sky a lot. Image colors straight from camera.
Very close to this valley is the valley town of Oppdal (pop. 6,000), with a weather station about the same altitude as the lake in that valley (604 m asl). As you can see, the mountain valleys of this area (Trollheimen/Dovre) is much warmer than Røros to the east at the same altitude. Seems this page has records at least back to 2000 Normales et records 1981-2010 à AKHIOK - InfoclimatSpring highs are warm enough to melt snow in April. Due to continentality being higher here, precipitation is lower than in more oceanic areas - typical for Scandinavia - but still plenty for a reliable snow cover in winter. Treeline at 1,000 m asl / 3300 ft, at nearly 63 N.
Mt Vesuvius, Naples and Pompei, the first pictures with smoke on 13th I think. We were excited when we saw it as we thought we could witness a real volcanic activism! Later we heard it turned out to be wildfires there on the mountains. Yeah, volcano is a cool thing albeit I would not like to live very close to it.
