My point is that it's easier for "normal" people engaged in "normal" activities to avoid death by cold than by heat.
Again it depends on what yardstick you are using for hot and cold.

Obviously, (potentially) "dangerously" hot and "dangerously" cold.

I spent last summer in a place where the summer is about about 6-7C warmer than my summer -I didn't see any species that can't grow in my climate, and overall, there were far fewer species.
There's way more flowers here in MN in springtime than there are in Florida. S. Florida in general sucks for growing flowers or vegetables. The soil is too sandy.

Dangerously hot and cold can be different things for different people depending on a number of factors.

Yep, soil is another factor. I think in general though, cool/warm climates are more forgiving environments on a larger range of species, than hot or cold climates.

I would think so.

What do you consider the cut off point for a cool climate?

Annual average temperature of about 12C would be a cutoff for me.

I used to think I liked hot weather more than I actually do now. It's kind of over rated unless you are sitting down doing nothing all day. I now prefer moderate temperatures but still find averages of around 20-30°C suitable for summer.

Because freezing is horrible.

Sun
Sand
Heat
Humidity
Palm trees
Flip Flops
Boating
Less clothes

I like hot weather because I hate being cold. I hate wearing layers, I hate wearing a heavy coat. I don't even live in a place that's too cold. There's no snow here and I still hate the cold. I can't imagine living in New York or Chicago where you have to wear hats, scarves, gloves, and boots in addition to already wearing 10 layers and 5 heavy coats.

NYC is not that cold at least by my standards. Where I live makes NYC look mild as it can be 10-15°F warmer than Monroe in the morning. If you want to see a cold climate by my standards...
