There are probably a lot more people attempting to grow with some degree of success cold hardy varieties of palm trees since 1996 versus the years before, eh?
I don't want to see any palms where I live
It got down below 0 in many areas near Nashville in 2014 and 2015, including my backyard, so I've *technically* experienced temperatures below 0. And I've not only seen, but rode in an Accord, with a windchill below 0 (temperature: 10.4 F / -12.0 C, windchill -8 F / -22 C, January 7, 2015 about 6:30 pm)
The last map showing the snowfall map totals is a huge reason why Kansas City is such a joke climate that never gets much winter. I can't remember how many times a snow track would cut the entire metro in half literally. Eventually I'll move further north and I'll have four distinct seasons again. Ohio Valley weather doesn't cut it.
Last week we got 3 days of mild afternoon temps around 8C/45F. All the snow previously on the ground and streets melted, and it was good to get outside. I rode my bike all 3 of those days, about 30 miles a day.
Yesterday the snow started again, and this morning (Sunday) it's coming down big time here in Chemnitz. So far about 20 cm / 8 inches new snow on the ground, and still counting. Temps are in a narrow range just below freezing, and luckily there is almost no wind, otherwise it would look like a blizzard. Good day for book reading.
Near 78f for me on the colder water and maybe 83f inland. No rain yet this month.
