Another miserable day in Fort Worth Texas. Couldn’t even make it to 50 degrees for a high temperature.
Whoa. That's quite a difference, because many areas in Greater Houston reached or exceeded the 60°F mark today. At least there was plentiful sunshine in both areas today.
Really???the interior portions of New England must be more prone to severe arctic outbreaks than I previously thought.
Uh yes, Look at climate graphs for Aroostook County, Maine or Coos County, NH. AWOS such as Berlin, Whitefield, Houlton, and Presque Isle have all recorded low temperatures colder than -40F/-40C. However, not as much as in the past with warming winter temperatures. The state record low temperature for Maine is -50F in Allagash in NW Aroostook County. The state record low temperature for New Hampshire is on Mount Washington at -50F. However, just over the Connecticut River in Essex County, Vermont the village of Bloomfield has recorded -50F as well. That area of Vermont is the most rural part of the state, known as the Northeast Kingdom.
18Z GFS model run again shows the extreme importance of placement and strength of the high pressure ridge developing off the West Coast. If the placement is not as favorable, downstream cold air intrusions will not be as strong. Models should be coming into closer agreement as the likely pattern change is now 5-7 days out. The more ideal scenario if you want a more arctic air mass in the US is the 12Z GFS model run.
Currently here, in Downeast, Maine....
23F Degrees, Dew Point 14F Degrees, Winds NW 7mph, Gusts 17mph, Accumulating snow 1-2" beginning in 78 minutes...Forecasted Low 18F Degrees..
What a wild week, beginning with the death of our Trailblazer...reliable garage quoted $4300 to replace the transmission + labor....We just had them place studded snow tires on the beast! Then, a client gave my one and only coat to her church believing it was part of her (deceased husband's clothing)! Thankfully they were able to find my coat (by Columbia), and return it to my clients where I will soon be and pick-it-up!
Looking for a new vehicle and hoping for the best...

Nice to see you back. Sorry I havent been in the Maine weather thread recently.
And.... The models call for snow to sleet in LI. What a joke.
lol. It's like threading a needle but the closer you are to that mix line, the biggest the precip totals. Although I prefer less precip and higher snow ratios. I'm tired of cement snow

Haven't experienced anything below 0F since last February when I went on vacation to the Adks. .
Haven't looked at records or anything (doesn't feel like a record) but looks like you're in the teens this morning

Looks like more coming for you. How much are you at for the season?

I noticed it was still light after 5pm now. Not looking forward to the days when we need to shut those blinds to keep the sun out. lol
