A major winter storm looks to impact northern Indiana Saturday/Saturday night this weekend. Still too early to know amounts but widespread 6 inches to up to 8 or more inches possible if the storm keeps shifting south as it has been. Some areas could see freezing rain and sleet as well. South Bend is 14 inches below normal on snowfall this season. Down here in Indianapolis, this will be pretty much all liquid. Might have some flurries late Saturday night/Sunday morning but won't see any accumulation.
Absolutely pathetic model performance recently with ZERO run to run consistency by the GFS and Euro. I'll wait and see the model updates later this afternoon.
I remember 2015 fondly. A strong area of low pressure pumped all that warm air across the eastern US into the arctic via the gulf stream. The north pole had its first ever December reading above freezing due to that warm air mass migrating northeastward towards the end of the month.
No one predicted the insane level of record warm air this month back in October-November with a weak/moderate La Nina.
