Perth has set two heat records:

-Most (5) consecutive days over 40C (previous record was 4 consecutive days in February 1933, February 2016 and December 2021. Forecast for tomorrow is 39C so there is a chance this record may be extended.
-Most (10) days of 40C+ during a summer season. Previous record was 7 days in 2015/16. With still over a month of summer left!

The north of the country continues under the heat dome. Some places like Formosa already with (10) consecutive days above 40C and counting. May be a record, too.
Here around BA after the heatwave we got stuck under a stalling front producing storms day after day. With today is already a week of that weather and according the forecast it gonna last thru Wednesday at least, with only a possible break on Monday.
Now I understand perfectly what the folks from Seattle and that area feel on a winter basis

The record in Cape Town was revised and lately discarded, kudos to SA's meteo service, this looked like a more reliable reading than the one in Lyton for instance, but they still did the exhaustive verification in order to keep the high standard of record-keeping.

A photo from one of the many nice storms seen today, this one off the coast of BA province

There was a report of a tornado also today in the province of Mendoza.

Four consecutive nights of 20C+ in the forecast for here (perfect news for my birthday today) - I haven't seen more than two before.

Have started on the warmest four week period of the year - cicadas are constant now.

Meanwhile the two latest nights here were lovely (around 14C), and this came as an absolute relief after a perhaps record-tying streak of 20 nights of 20C in BA.

The historic heat wave finally ended in the north yesterday. While the top values weren't that high (although multiple local records were broken), this heat dome was unprecedent in terms of extension and duration.
In the north the city of Formosa had a national record streak of 13 maxs of 40C+ , while Las Lomitas was just a half degree away from building a streak of 18! Look:

Yep, that's definitely warm.

Highest for here so far this summer is 28C, and 36C nationally.

Actually it wasn't a record streak, but tied for 2nd place. This is the current top10 for longest streaks of 'tropical nights' (20C+) at BA:

1) 27 days: 20/12/1982 to 15/1/1983
2) 20 days: 13/12/2013 to 1/1/2014
3) 20 days: 7/1/2022 to 26/1/2022
4) 19 days: 9/1/1979 to 27/1/1979
5) 18 days: 21/1/2010 to 7/2/2010
6) 17 days: 19/1/1992 to 4/2/1992
7) 16 days: 10/1/1972 to 25/1/1972
8) 15 days: 22/12/1994 to 5/1/1995
9) 15 days: 22/12/2010 to 5/1/2011
10) 15 days: 26/1/2018 to 9/2/2018

Well, they're not really comparable places due to latitude. Instead, these last days the heat established over Patagonia, where El Bolson peaked at 35.5C, very short of its monthly record.

Heavy rain forecast for the hills south of here, with 48 hour totals up to 600mm.

Might be a bit creep over the ranges to here, although if the system tracks further east, it could be a big event here.

An upgrade on the heavy rain warning, which has now shifted from orange to red - up to 750mm over 34 hours for the mountains of Westland and up to 300mm on the coast.

Lower totals up this end of the Island, with up to 400m for the hills and 150mm for the coast. Looks like quite a bit of thunder as well.

Will go down for a swim in the river shortly, before it goes offline for a few days.
