It seems like this issue keeps going on and on and never goes away. Would it be possible for the county to simply return the housing funds received from the federal gov't?
I don't think that building low income housing in a rural area far from shopping, transportation, and jobs is helping anyone.
The federal government needs to stay out of our neighborhoods and let local governments do their job. Obama is trying to socially engineer westchester. He doesn't understand the concept of a rural area because he has never lived in one.
He considered Pound Ridge an under-served community according to the Department of Agriculture.
Obviously the federal government should not be imposing on local zoning laws. this is just the liberals and the federal government and Obama trying to overpower local governments.

So you feel that Obama is personally involved in the direction of the issue, the man behind the curtain I suppose, and has some specific beliefs about Westchester County?

Correct me if I'm wrong but the article says "Westchester got into this mess because for years it took tens of millions in federal housing funds while falsely claiming it was meeting the conditions under which the money was given: that is, lowering the barriers to fair housing in its predominantly white towns and villages". They played the game, time to pay the piper....

This lawsuit was settled in 2009 (Obama's first year in office) and was filed during the Bush administration. I realize from your posts that you claim to be 21 now, so your ignorance is perhaps explained by the fact that you were a freshman in high school when the case settled. Either way, you're completely wrong to peg this all on Obama.
And what do you consider a "rural area?" You know that President Obama lived in Oahu and Indonesia during his youth, correct?
In any event, I wish Westchester County would repay the funds that they illicitly took and pay a hefty fine for their conduct. I am a big fan of diversity where it is organic, but I don't love the concept of forcing lower income housing into expensive neighborhoods just for the sake of trying to engineer some type of diversity. The whole situation is undeniably Westchester's fault, as they absolutely should not have taken the money and neglected to live up to their end of the bargain. But I just don't think sticking middle income families in Chappaqua, Rye, etc. is the solution.
matlabmaster.. how do you bring Obama into this topic? Did you even read the article? I think you should keep your political opinions to yourself to avoid looking like a fool.
Please, let's leave national politics out of this topic as that's for another forum. Thank you.
