I hope all the posters, readers and Peeps stay safe and as dry as one can these next few days...
It has been raining at our Joint up on the Ridge on Eagle Nest Mtn, since last Thursday eve a week ago, and has barely let up during the past 8 days. We have seen a glimmer of Mother Sun for only a few mins during all that time.
More to come, and none of us needs more rain, even that bone dry anomaly AVL airport recording site.
We have been through a lot of rain events up here over the past 14 years, including 'Canes Ivan & Francis in 2004, but this week of constant soakers, with a few more days of potentially even heavier rain is not what any of us need or want.
Be careful, be aware, be safe and good luck to all.

I keep looking over my shoulder and checking for moss on my north side! This has been a protracted rain event, for sure. Concrete was poured for our garage foundation walls 9/23 and they STILL haven't been able to strip the forms! sigh.... it's out of our control and as you said, all any of us can do is be smart and be safe and wait it out.

Thank you for the kind words MD. We're quite damp, but so far in good shape over here in Brevard/Etowah/Mills River areas, and paying close attention. At least you have no 'flood plains' up on your mountain top ... even though landslides, mudslides and falling trees are a concern. We're all thinking of you "looking over us".
We Quilters like rainy days -- keeps us productive in the sewing room and out of the shops. $$$
Our State has a good article on the Great Flood of 1916 that devastated Asheville and the mountains. Worth a read: Hell and High Water: The Flood of 1916
^ Very interesting historical read, poppydog...thank you for the link.
I wouldn't wish that kind of repeat on anybody/anywhere. 'Canes Francis & Ivan were bad enough.
We are rooting for 'Cane Joaquin to turn hard right and go north east and to take that giant ball of moisture with it.
We haven't seen rain like this up here, so steady, constant and heavy since F & I.
We do not need another half foot or more...

If you really want to read about a devastating flood read about the flood of Nelson VA (between Charlottesville and Lynchburg) in 1969. They say upwards of 31 inches of rain may have fallen in a single night. It was the remnants of Hurricane Camille.

When I first read the title of your post the thought occurred to me that you just might be tieing one on. Carry on and stay safe and dry MD.

Which seems a rather inviting idea with this continuous dreary, damp weather... I can see why the Irish, Scots, and English have such a propensity for the pubs, mate!
