It'll cost you though. Closer to town means it's going to cost more. More further you go, the cheaper it gets. I know of some areas in rural Kansas where you can get 5-20 acres for $20k with a house on top of it. Problem? It's nowhere near any potential jobs and will be surrounded by farms/ranches. We thought about finding rural acreage but the problem was my wife's work (city) requires her to be within 30 minutes or less. She actually signed papers stating that she wouldn't live more than 30 minutes away. Apparently it's the city of Wichita's policy to encourage people to stay in town and contribute their tax property monies to the city. Good luck!

TedH71: If your wife works for the city government in Wichita and has the requirement, most city governments require you either live within city limits or the county.

Yeah, I just never knew about it til we started house hunting. I wanted a house out in the country. Guess that didn't pan out. We moved to Bel Aire which is actually a better town to live in than Wichita.....not too far either.

Not a native, but from what I've seen: there may be some areas in Derby, Andover, etc. that fit that bill but Derby seems to be growing pretty steadily and is a real town of it's own now so it's not the real country atmosphere, though places on the edge of town might fit the bill. Andover has a lot of residential development going on now too that is eating up the larger parcels of land near major thoroughfares but there may still be options on the periphery. The smaller, slightly more rural, suburbs might have some options. Kechi comes to mind as one that's still pretty close but has a legitimate "country" feel around it. Rose Hill is another but it's way the heck out. Haysville, Goddard, and Maize might have some more rural feeling properties too. (Although Maize is the west's version of Andover in a way, lots of new development up in that corner too that might drive up prices on the larger properties.)

I don't know why we should take anyone who doesn't know the difference between "worse" and "worst" seriously. Didn't people learn this stuff in elementary school?

Off topic. Perhaps, you aren't familiar with staying on topic?

Andover feels super country to me, the whole town only has like 12k people in it. On the outskirts of town, it looks very rural. It has places that sell farm stuff which I have never even seen before. I guess it is all a matter of perspective.

What does "country" mean to native Kansans?

Andover has new developments popping up where homes start in the upper $400s, 2 golf courses, one of the nicest YMCAs I've ever seen, etc... which to me isn't really "country" any more. With a new hospital, new higher end development in NE Wichita seeping into that area, and so on I imagine it will continue to develop too. Definitely still a rural area overall, especially the farther out from the edge of Wichita you get, but with that kind of development popping up it just didn't sound like the kind of rural/country feel the poster was looking for to me.

I have no idea what country means to native Kansans, but it probably isn't McMansions popping up next to their farm, haha!

Sounds on topic enough. Questioning the credibility of a blatant troll.

It was not questioning "a blatant troll", it was this: https://www.washingtonpost.com/poste...t-there-fault/
