My husband and I are thinking of moving to Brookfield. We currently live in Wauwatosa, but want to move to Brookfield because of the bigger yards, it seems like they have lower taxes, and the schools are good. The issue is that we are a mixed race couple and family and Im concerned Im going from the frying pan to the fire. I have lived on Wauwatosa and this neighborhood for some time and it took my neighbors over a year to even speak to me. They always spoke with my husband and our children, but never to me. Now I know there a lot of stereotypes out there about AA people, but I dont fit that stereotype in the slightest bit. I guess once they realized I wasnt like that, they felt it was ok to talk and be friendly. Would I be facing the same situation in Brookfield ?

PS... Ive read some of these threads and Im not looking for some idiot to talk poorly about AA people and how we should all leave WI and about the incident a Mayfair, Im just trying to get an understanding of the type of atmosphere there is in Brookfield and what its like to live there.

I don't live in Brookfield, so I can't comment specifically about how people would act. I would assume they would be relatively similiar to Tosa though, the communities are adjacent & have similiar overall character.

If you're looking for a larger lot, you might also want to consider the west side of Tosa, near the Brookfield border. Depending on the neighborhood, they share alot of similiarities with Brookfield.

Personally, if I was that worried about meeting new neighbors, I would probably give more serious thought to staying where I was, unless there was something very wrong with the house or otherwise.

I hope you find what you're looking for

Thanks for your input. I am open to all people, so this issue is not with me. Im willing to speak to anyone, but most times people just assume things about me that arent true... We have given the West side of Tosa consideration, but my husband only wants our children to go to Tosa East if we stay in Tosa (that is where we both graduated from). Just a lot to think about. Im sure I will have to deal with this on some level no matter where I go. But thanks for the advice.
