Looking for Full-Time retail job in NYC? (applying, visa, jobs)

Hi, I'm a college student from Ireland and I am going to apply for the J1 visa so I can seek a full-time job in New York during the summer months - looking at sales assistant vacancies as they seem like the most relevant/realistic. I would be grateful if anybody could give me a few points on where to start, i.e. the store's website, craigslist etc. if I am to go about applying for these jobs online? Thank you very much.
