I worked a job for only six weeks then my husband passed and for reasons I decided to leave my job. I was given to T shirts to wear to work, but, the job won't mail my last paycheck for me until I return my t shirts. I'm happy to return the t shirts, but, I'm 300 miles away handling some of my husbands final affairs and I could use my final check. I find this odd that two lousy T shirts and they won't mail me my last $300 check! Is this seem normal? I guess I shouldn't be surprised since we didn't even have warm water and had to buy our own toilet paper...
It is quite normal for many companies to require the return of their property before you get paid.
Take the time to mail the shirts and move on.
I'm going to do that, but, I had to travel 300 miles to finish my dead husbands affairs so I'm unable to mail the T shirts....I wish they would mail the check in the meantime.

I am sorry for the passing of your husband. However, many companies have policies like that. Otherwise, people would keep items such as work uniforms, computers, keys to the building and other company owned property. It may seem like something stupid and insignificant to you, but the company has probably had problems in the past getting their property returned in a timely manner. Or former employees used the uniform/tee shirts/employee name tag to return to the office or business to steal items (that is why some retail establishments have that rule).
If the problem is the distance perhaps if you contact your immediate boss and explain the situation they may agree to send a partial payment until you return to your home (and have access to the shirts). Or perhaps a relative or friend could go to your house and then return the tee shirts to your former employer.
The US Postal Service will come to your home and pick up the package for you if schedule a pick up online. You have to send the package Priority. It will cost you about $7.00. You can buy the postage and print out the label at home.
Send the shirts back. Wishful thinking isn't going to help you.

Wishful thinking? I have told them I will send the shirts back??

It doesn't matter what you say till you actually do it.
Have you ever watched House MD? His favorite line was "People lie."
The rules are the rules, it sucks for you right now, but if exceptions are made then soon enough the exception becomes the rule and nothing ever gets done right anymore.
Just accept that you won't see your paycheck till you mail in the shirts. If you want to speed the process up then hand-deliver the shirts. If you are to far away to deal with any of this then maybe a family member or friend can get into your domicile and retrieve the t-shirts to return them.
Bottom line, you aren't getting the $300 till you return the shirts. Nothing will change that.
how hard is it to stick two t shirts in the mail with a tracking number what ? $3.50 tops???
It is tricky when I am 300 miles away handling my dead husbands affairs. The shirts are worth $10 perhaps they could deduct $10 from my final pay.....I kept my work shirts when I worked for Shaws??
If money is that tight and you cannot do it...
Can someone can go to your house, put the shirts in a Priority envelope and mail them for you?
