Agree that some retailers pay less. I know the goodwill down the street from my apartment pays $8 an hour but every employee that works in that store is guaranteed 40 hours a week. I heard about 40% of walmarts workers only get part time hours. I think $9.50-10 an hour would be doable if Walmart guaranteed each employee full time hours but if they do that they probably have to lay off some workers. I am sure Walmart employees are thankful for their $1 raise back in April but a lot of the workers probably don't even get 30 hours a week. I remember working at target back in college and the staring wage was 8.50 an hour and 70% of the workers were part time. It was rare to see a full time cashier, sales associate, or stocker. Only management and team leaders were actually full time workers. I guess the wage is not so much the issue, it is the amount of hours they give them.

Costco cashiers do a better job than counterparts at Walmart. The difference is almost night and day.

However, Costco job is harder because often they have to move heavier items and properly cart them for customers. It's not as easy as Walmart.

I am in TX and Costco cashiers make $11/hr

Costco cashiers make more in CA because there is union. But it is very hard to get into Costco in CA

There is a reason for everything.

Really?

They pay $17ish in KS and that's non-union.

Where is this mythical Wal-Mart that has neat shelves and adequate inventory?

Costco cashiers make more than $11/hr. Long term cashiers that are topped out make $23/hr. Yes, even in TX.

Walmart has 2.2 million employees. An additional $2 an hour for that many people would around $7 billion a year, which is roughly half the total profits for the company.

In general --- pay more, less profit. Pay less, more profit. This is a mystery?
