This was an interesting thread to read. Amazing what people will do.

I had a coworker that was fired for having porn on a laptop that had been handed over to IT for some sort of update. He was marched out the door upon the discovery. The middle manager kept it very hush-hush over the real reason. Through the company grapevine, aka gossip, we learned he had "unauthorized software" on his computer, which was against stated company policy. It was too bad as he was a good employee, intelligent and easy to get along with.

Even more stupid though, about a month or so later, I was in a one-on-one meeting with the highest level manager (a vice president, just under the CEO), requesting a very specific type of software that I needed to download as a trial before I could verify it would help me get my job done. Out of the blue the woman told me why the co-worker had been fired, had nothing to do with unauthorized software. It was like she was trying to be all buddy-buddy with me, not sure why. She definitely was not in the loop with the other female peers at her level there.

So much for confidentiality. Yeah the guy was a pig for having porn on a company laptop. But she was even more despicable for revealing that information to me. Karma for that woman. I had absolutely zero respect for her after that.

The manager walked into his the VP 's office and demanded promotion to AVP or consider today his 2 week notice.

SVP told him no need for 2 weeks, that he would be paid his 2 weeks today and to leave immediately or be escorted.

The guy was begging former co-workers for referrals for new jobs. Eventually, he moved to other side of the country for a low level manager job, where nobody knew his reputation.

I guess it's not really a firing, since the manager volunteered.

It was no big loss, he was a narcissistic and treated his staff like crap by yelling and screaming on the floor in front of other people.

Oh yeah? Check this out:

I actually talked myself out of a job...was trying to actually benefit the boss (the company's privately owned) by being more productive by using my real skills instead of simply doing the same ol'/same ol' laid out for me and the guy decided instead that he really didn't need me in any capacity after all!!

Maybe he thought I was being a smart-aleck I guess...but yeah, I talked myself out of a job!

Sounds like he did you a favor. Who wants to work for a person like that?

I don't understand this. I get the part about long smoke breaks, but you lost me with "A van had been parked..... What does the van have do with anything? He was fired for reporting a van that had been parked in the lot for a long time? I'm having a hard time following this.

I've seen correctional officers fired for a number of reasons. Like having sex with an inmate, having sex with an inmate's family member, for dating someone on probation, for stealing an inmate's credit card out of his property box and using it, for smuggling drugs into an correctional facility, for attempting to smuggle drugs into a correctional facility, and more. I also saw a kitchen steward get fired after getting tired of two inmate kitchen workers always arguing. He gave each one a big kitchen knife and told them to settle their differences now. I saw a state trooper get fired for stealing personal property at crash scenes where the victims were incapacitated.

Empty boxes from a shipping dock? Boxes with stuff in them, like what just happened to the UPS driver recently?

How so stanley?

Well, I did need the job, actually!

But while he wasn't a bad person, he was one of them "one-trick small businessmen"...they know what they know and that's all they want to know!
