I feel like I'm worth at least $25 an hour in more expensive markets. In smaller towns 20-22 bucks or so. I have a 4 year degree in my field and lots of experience. It could be a lot more if it were not for my lack of upward mobility. I never wanted to go into management. After a while you start being replaceable with people a lot younger that companies are willing to train/throw to the wolves and pay less.

Most high paying positions are that way for a reason, because it takes that much money for someone to want to stay in the job. Stress kills. I make enough to afford renting a decent apt in one the most expensive cities in the US, and can put away a few extra dollars. The only catch is my entertainment budget is nil. Can't buy all the nice new toys, or a house but the last thing I need is more stuff.

If I could easily find work in small towns where the COL is below average, I could live on $15 an hour.

At least you admit that the Democrats are Republican-lite.

My meds are my biggest cost problem of being on my own.)
I love when someone who is on the Medicaid expansion calls the ACA "Obummercare."

Hypocrisy at its finest, but then again Ayn Rand had to swallow her own bitter pill of hypocrisy during her elder years when she had to depend on Medicare and Social Security too.

It will be hard to find such a thing that doesn't pay survival or sub-survival wages, but it is worth the risk to try in something that could backfire but could also yield higher returns (especially if you currently have a safety net already to protect you in case it DOES go belly up.)
Also if you do come up with something cool, it is WAY harder to protect it and properly capitalize on it without it being stolen or a company trying to claim you signed something 10 years ago etc etc.

Unless you can build out a prototype ON YOUR OWN TIME and sell it as one package for millions then you really are kind of screwed. You have to try getting on with govt because once a company gets some good ideas they can cut you loose and that's that.

"Why do people think they are worth $15 an hour?"
Because they grew up as a member of one of the "entitlement classes", or transferred the participation-trophy expectations of youth activities to the "adult" activity of responsibly supporting yourself and family.

The famous FICTION writer whose boyfriend helped destroy our economy and who NEVER practiced what she preached.

Those dang Russians somehow convince Americans of the worst ideas in the universe.

Oh this thread turned out to be a rabbit hole.

Lots of bad ideas. Lots of interesting opinions.

Lots of people who do not understand how business works and how Socialism will eventually grind any large scale economy to a halt. It is the responsibility of individuals to promote themselves and today push further. There is no hand out coming.

Don’t like your minimum wage job? Do something about it? The vast majority complaining have plenty of time and access to resources to do something about it but are waiting for government cheese.
