We do just fine here, profits are still made, companies thrive, and we do it all while treating the workers like human beings.

Sounds like you were in the right boat, leaving Wisconsin for Australia. In most of the 1st world working conditions are so much better, America should be doing so much better.

I work in a call center for a cosmetic company. We were told if anyone took Black Friday off, they would be fired. In fact, the whole month of December and half of January are "blacked out". No approved days off at all.

Why on earth would you still be bloated on Friday? A turkey isn't a single serving. I don't understand why people eat until they're sickly for 2 days. Just because it's a holiday doesn't mean one needs to eat everything in sight.

Our company actually lists this day on our holiday calendar, so while it may not be a holiday to you, to my company's HR, it counts. Sorry.
