When I was 16 I was dating a 21 year old. In Sweden that is legal. Age of consent is 15. In The USA he would be a sex offender.
It varies from state to state, but generally with that age difference there could be prosecution. Under 18 the parents apparently can claim something along the lines of kidnapping.
One thing to keep in mind over here is any arrest is on the internet forever on the mugshot sites. Only convictions get to the list.
Curious how you feel about the current case where the 14y/o girl is in court over child porn (sexting pictures of herself to others) ~ if convicted, she will be labeled a sex offender.
I'm serious, not a rhetorical question. There's a HUGE variance in "sex offenses", from peeing in 'public' on up.
Well, if those that are so vocal about it were to remain consistent it'd be "she's scum of the earth and should be kept in jail for life".
People for some reason must have a boogey man (or woman) to fear and rail against, maybe to make what they do that's wrong or their own failings look okay in their minds? "Well, I may be a <insert transgression here> at least I'm not one of those" rattles around in their skulls on a daily basis...
And to add to that what about those that while on the list have had no legal issues for over 20++ years? Is everyone defined by what they did decades ago, is that where we're now at as a society?

Based on the recent news, yes, a grope can come back and haunt a man 40 years later.
the church hires them all the time, but call them priests leading youth bible camps
Actually not totally true. The church works hard to make sure the priests are never charged or convicted of anything so technically they are not sex offenders but should be.

In the context of the OP, if someone has broken a law AND paid the penalty for said actions at some point no matter who they are or what they did should be a non issue.
Most people are not the same person they were 20 years ago (note I said "most").
It depends on the circumstances but most likely not. However if it was a high school relationship situation then that would be less concerning than exploiting a 5 year old. As long as there were other qualified candidates joining I’d choose one who wasn’t convicted.
