I've had it, i'm getting out of the US (highest, degrees, percentage)

It is interesting to read all these posts. Having been unemployed a little while now, I find myself watching the news more often. And just thinking. And when you look at the HUGE deficit we have now, and the personal freedoms we no longer enjoy, and the total lack of privacy anymore...well, I have also thought about moving away at some point. I wonder if our country isn't just going to totally collapse at some point? After all, throughout history, many civilizations don't last very long.
I am tired of seeing movie stars make millions while so many people live on the streets. I am tired of seeing cameras at every stop light to watch our every move. I am tired of big corporations using and abusing us, or outsourcing work, and even the hard earned money is not enough to live comfortably on.
I am old enough, also, to remember days when life was not totally like this here. Is it any better elsewhere? I don't know. Perhaps. Really I would just like more of my privacy and personal freedoms back, and less emphasis on working to death. Like some of the other posters said...all this stuff now, with taking your shoes off in the airport, being patted down, treated like a criminal just in case you might be one, not being able to go anywhere without being watched by a camera...it's very frustrating. If I moved anywhere, it would be to Europe and probably Spain, since I am somewhat fluent in Spanish and I am also part Spanish. I think about going abroad for a stint someday after my cats die, which is about 10 years away.
What do you mean "make money any way I choose"? On one hand, you are arguing FOR less government. On the other hand, you are arguing AGAINST capitalistic corporations. What exactly are you looking for?

Medical -- in the mid 90's the AMA (a trade Corporation) bribed Congress to pay Medical Schools to limit enrollment. Price goes up. Insurance companies do the same, and the most recent was Big PharmCo bribed Congress to stop lower priced import drugs.
Same in most US industries. Retail, Banking, on and on.
The US .gov now serves the Corporations and the "people" are becoming serfs to them. Corporations have been working hand-in-hand with each other against US. There is no Corp v. Govt -- that is a big a farce as Left v. Right.
Californiabear's observations are correct and are a result of Corporacray takeover of the last few decades.
In one post you want government small and off-your-back so anybody can make money, and in another you're supporting government regulation of health care. Which one do you really mean?
It's very simple. When a company makes money and profits from selling hamburgers, iPods, cars etc. let them thrive and compete in the marketplace. However, when an insurance company parks its ass between you and your doctor then that becomes a very big problem that can and will effect your health and ultimately your freedom. If you have not experienced it before make no mistake, millions have.
The major problem in our country today is our pitiful healthcare system. It is an embarassment. Living and receiving adequate healthcare is a human right. Dying or not receiving treatment, because your pathetic insurance company refuses to cover, is a shame. We should be ashamed of our healthcare system, especially in regards to elderly people on Medicare. The riches country in the world should provide healthcare to its citizens period.

It seems that high insurance premiums and outrages medical cost is the barrier between someone who is near retirement age able to retire financially, but only doesn't because without work covered insurance they cannot afford health care on their own. Basically it is a modern form of slavery where like a previous poster said, work until you die.
No wonder you see some that near retirement age pretty much begin signing off their assets to younger, trustworthy stable children or other family members. Technically they do not owe anything, so if they incur high hospital bills technically they do not have any assets or money where collectors can collect from. I know of an individual that is nearing 60 who is not wealthy, not nearly poor either who said he is retiring. As far as health insurance he went on to tell me. "Screw them, if I get sick and I die so be it. I've worked long enough and saved long enough and I am going to enjoy life while I still can". Basically he refuses to be what he calls, a "modern form slave to medical care". He has his house paid off, cars paid off, money in the bank(which could be a problem if illness strike), and healthy enough to travel and enjoy life. He said at best he will work part time or seasonally.
His confidence, peace of mind, and optimism is inspiring. By the way he has considered moving to another country but does not intent to for now.
