Nothing in the world exemplifies human stupidity more than mindless self serving glitzy websites that attract web surfers who are way too gullible to apply the most basic common sense. This is absolutely nothing but a promotional list from a site that has taken it upon itself to dangle their preferences for amazing places to visit. Click on Africa, for example. You will get 25 "best" places, every single one of which is in either Morocco or an English speaking country, in the formerly British south or east Africa. Egypt? Mali? Madagascar? Nothing to see here, folks, move along.
The site itself simply calls them the "top" destinations, with no effort at all to reference what criteria were used in making their judgment, nor even what "top" means, because their criteria are all bullcrap. Just pick out a bunch of places that they could find bright glitzy pictures of, and toss in one or two with an exotic-sounding name, just make sure they are in countries that kiss the ass of the World Bank and IMF and have plenty of multinational 5-star chain hotels.
The only good thing about this site is you don't have to keep clicking "next" 25 times and scroll down each time, to see all 25 of them, and then have to close your browser to get out, like those bastards at all the Conse Nast coffee-table-book websites.
I'm surprised Siem Reap is the highest rated Asian destination. I would give that medal to Hong Kong.
Istanbul is technically in Asia...
