I've been to Europe many times and I bet I've seen more and know about more about Europe than you do.
Philadelphia is better than Amsterdam. Amsterdam has boring canals, drugs and prostitution and unsafe for children and families. The canal water is dirty and stinks in the summer.
and may I ask what is the point of these threads? Oneless you obviously love the US cities more than in the EU, why why why do you keep trying to convince others from the EU that the US is better? Obviously based on upbringing, taste etc, people have their preferences for what type of city/country to live in one is not better than the other, just different and another persons preference. Is the purpose for the Europeans to cower in awe of the US and 'admit' its better? If so 1) it won't happen as like I said they prefer something else and 2) why do you care?
If you truly believed the US was so superior to Europe, you wouldn't spend all your time putting one side down to make the other seem better. If the US is as great as you say it is, it can handle a little competition. You're clearly not convinced that the US can stand on its own so you have to invent or exaggerate the negative qualities of other countries.
this thread wouldn't have existed if one was SIGNIFICANTLY better than the other but thats not the case, however when you start doing what OneLess is doing, you just ruin thread.
what does Philly have that attracts world travelers? Amsterdam is a world city, Philly is not.
Philly has great museums, buildings, skyscrapers, nice city hall, cathedrals, parks, shopping, good food etc.
Amsterdam is famous for people going there for drugs and prostitution. The Netherlands is worse than South America.
Amsterdam's crime rate still pales in comparison to Philadelphia's. According to your sources, Amsterdam had 4,4 murders per 100,000 people, compared to 21.2 in Philadelphia. If that makes Amsterdam the most murderous big city in Western Europe, that only shows how incredible safe WE is compared to the US.
i've heard it all now.. i can't take OneLess serious anymore.
I have to be honest and say it is a typical attitude of many Americans, not all, but many. They know nothing about the rest of the world and just blab on and on about how wonderful America is. All part of the propaganda here you grow up with and Hollywood. I was awestruck the first time I went to Europe.
