Spain relatively recently hosted the summer games, and while Tokyo has not held them since 1964, I believe, maybe it's time for someone new (who's old).

It's hot in the summer.

Security is a problem in any major city, just ask Madrid and Boston.

Hopefully Turkey will continue its current growth rate through to 2020 and show off Istanbul to the world, while western Europe stagnates in its own fot.

Good Luck!

Istanbul. It seems like a good symbolic gesture and it's currently taking steps in upgrading its infrastructure so things should be in good shape by 2020. It's a good goal for Istanbul and Turkey to have as it would put them both under scrutiny and drive development and progress.

I also think Istanbul would be the best choice and most interesting city right now (though Madrid has truly spectacular architecture)- but the Grand Bazaar is cheesy to me... the same goods every 5 or 6 stores selling cheap quality goods.. there are far better places to shop and see in Istanbul than the Grand Bazaar.. it really is just worth walking through - even for basic souvenirs there are better and cheaper options outside of it.

The one concern IOC voters might have is the topic of security, since Istanbul is surrounded by an unstable region. Do we see the middle East becoming more peaceful as we edge closer towards 2020?

Then again, Qatar will be hosting the 2022 World Cup, which I believe was a fine choice!!

You should - I believe there are plenty of cheap charter flights or even decent deals on scheduled flights from London to Istanbul. On top of that, it is easy to find affordable lodging and food options.

The sample size is still too small, but Istsnbul is leading by a 2:1:1 margin. Nice!

Madrid or Istanbul... but I voted for Madrid, it is a great city and really developed (if we talk about sporty places) and great to host Olympic Games. Also huge, good weather, etc.......

I've also voted Madrid, because I love that city and because it has great amenities. But I wouldn't mind Istanbul either (although right now, things are going a bit out of hand there apparently, with the flaring anti-government protests)

Really? I thought it was a disgraceful, shameful decision . There's no football culture whatsoever in Qatar and the weather conditions are extreme. The only reason why such a tiny country got it was because of the money they put in the pockets of corrupt Fifa-"officials" (aka mobsters). Grrr, still fuming over that one .
