Manufacturing jobs aren't seen as good? Man we stay I'm different worlds.
They are seen as good for the ECONOMY as it will rebalance our economy away from the services sector, but to the individual person contemplating a career choice, no, they are not seen as good, they do not pay very well, and they have declined a lot over the past 30 years.
I think I agree with this. Pretty much in every country great jobs are those that pay a lot, give a social status, personal satisfaction, and involve not too much of physical work. Those in most cases require a some sort of specialized education.
There are, however jobs that pay well, but involve dirty work and lots of working hours.
And the least desirable jobs are those that are stressful, not satisfying, require hard physical work, put at risk of severe injury or death, some are to be performed outdoors in extreme conditions, AND give no benefits and low pay. Most of the worst jobs require no education or just a minimal training.
I would be glad to work in a car factory. I am not after riches. Just a decent job where I feel I am contributing. I am working class, I prefer hands on work. I have worked in factories, done joinery and painting and decorating. I have put in as much hard work as any lawyer or accountant!
Never said they didn't work hard as they undoubtedly do, nor did I say they do not contribute to the economy, as manufacturing is still important - just that the job isn't seen as desirable to the individual person, and people don't aspire to be 'working-class'. Not saying this is a good thing, it's just the way it is, for better or worse.
Well whoop de do for you Owen. You go and become whatever you want to be, I'll become a joiner and we will both be happy will we. I don't care what anyone thinks about my choice of employment. I work hard earn my wage and live. That's all you can do in life.
Best:
Mining Labourer
Brick Layer
Builders Labourer
Truck Driver
Garbage Collectors
Heavy Machinery Operator
Whatever Back office Government Job available
Worst
Accountant
Lawyer
Nurse
School Teacher
Scientist
Ok The list is not Serious, but yes this the country where an unskilled labourer or Tuck Driver could easily earn $100,000 plus a year. Way more than an your average Junior Solicitor, Qualified Accountant (not at management level), Registered Nurse, Senior Teacher or Scientist.
This isn't so much the case in Melbourne, where white-collar jobs are still very highly regarded and university is first option for most people completing year 12 but overall, I do agree and it sucks. I'm sitting here busting my ass off to hopefully get a well-paying, white-collar job and I've got people planning to do trades who are all like, "Lulz@u nerd, I study less than you, and I'll probably end up earning more money than you." Sigh.
