Everybody against Russia Poor you.

Yes, there were objections, mostly from neighboring countries. Mostly the same stuff as today. "They steal our jobs, yaddah yaddah". Funnily enough, the U.K. was always supporting new candidates (especially) from South Eastern Europe since they thought that would weaken the EU as a whole and stop European integration.

Chill. Open up a bottle of wine, turn on Rossiya 1 and cry yourself to sleep dreaming about your countrie's glorious past. Everything will be better tomorrow.

Switzerland is not EU, and did you read even those usatoday and dw.de articles and what they are about?

Daily Fail:

'Romanian gypsy ghettos. Schools filled with children who do not speak our language. A surge in crime. Social benefits abused': Now GERMANY admits mass immigration threatens 'social peace'

This has nothing to do with jobs or job security.

Sorry it's the morning here - I had my bottle of vine yesterday night.
I don't worry about "country's glorious past" and even less - about "Rossiya 1" channel.

Me too. I'm thinking about the 30 Years War and listening to military marches. Oh did you pope-worshippers get a real beating.

Ariete - don't be lazy do a search on this subject yourself. There is plenty of material out there.
Heck, start with typing in "Polish plumber."
You are a big boy, you can do it.

P.S. The OP was not talking about E.U. He was talking about the attitude of the Western Europeans.

Those who are/were worried about Polish plumbers were mostly poorly educated blue-collar workers who were perhaps already unemployed. Nowadays there are quite few jobs available which don't require education or language skills. The majority of the people couldn't care less.

Nevertheless, I don't think that anyone is discriminated or "hated" just because he's from Slovakia or Bulgaria.

They are not exactly "hated." They are looked down upon.
