I still really like the place though. It's good fun.
Well I've never seen them, it's usually me who's more (realistically) critical.

Nah, I think you're on the other side of the spectrum but not necessarily more realistic. I think you just have a real chip on your shoulder about the place and that overshadows the many great things about Taipei. It's a wonderfully vibrant city.

The other cities I mentioned were Vienna, Kyoto and Montreal. I place Vienna and Kyoto higher and Montreal about the same--each of these cities have great things to them with a lot of them missing from Taipei, but there are great attributes that Taipei has which these others don't have.

I have a real chip on my shoulder about Taiwan, unfortunately Taipei is on it.

It's just impossible to not be upset and annoyed when you are a local, especially when you follow the news. A day literally can't be passed without some infuriating bull**** happening.

I agree with the choice of city, but I'd bump up the date to 1980s.

Yes paella is common, as fideua, longaniza, puxero, all i pebre... the alioli sauce is excellent.

But i prefer most the horchata, the valencian sweets or cakes like coca en llanda, turrón or arnadí. Very good.

Valencia also has some good alcoholic beverages like casalla, mistela and agua de Valencia, all served very cold.

My favorite is agua de Valencia, of course. Maded with fresh valencian oranges...
