2. London - financial capital of the world (by consistent testimony of those who actually in the industry), the best balance of liveability, beauty, history, infrastructure and culture among the top 5. Let down by its high COL.
3. Tokyo - largest metro area among the top 5 with the largest overall GDP. World leading infrastructure. Abenomics and relatively poor diversity are downsides.
4. New York - financial capital of the largest old world power. A little past the apex of its power but still a force to be reckoned with.
5. Paris - richest culture and history among the top 5. The most beautiful architecture among the top 5.

I feel if Seoul had Shanghai's name it would be a top 8 lock for most people.
