And speaking of Lonesome Dove, Banjo, I so wish they could make another movie as good as that. Great film.
Yup. But remember that it was a mini-series, not a movie.
I loved the book, and loved the series; it was one of the best uses of long-form television ever made, but I would have hated to sit through it in a movie theater.
A lot of Larry McMurtry's work is cinematic, and he's a great writer, but Lonesome Dove was his masterpiece.
"We don't rent pigs." Those four words really summed up his resolute characters in the first few sentences of a massively long saga. It takes a hell of a lot of skill to do that so soon, so well, and so succinctly.
