Well, I dk if I love this word, but it's short and sweet and to the point.

Piker. A cautious person.

Yesterday, I heard a Wisconsin representative on the Judiciary Committee say that the Dems are making Joe McCarthy look like a piker.

Absolutely no intention of getting political here. But he made his point very succinctly (wish some of the others were half as succinct as he was.. :-)) with the use of the word piker.

So piker is the word I like today.

"Piker"

Interesting, I always pictured/remembered an Edward G. Robinson-type character mumbling around a cee-gar in an old smokey drunk poker game. I thought it meant 'cheater'. Then a huge fight would explode.

I had the impression of a goldbricker (another great word), someone who doesn't get things done.

Yes, piker has several other meanings, but what I understood him to be saying was the Dems were making McCarthy look like a "cautious person" with what they were doing. Not saying I agree or disagree w him, but he made his point succinctly.

Maybe piker is used with this particular meaning more often more in Wisconsin? It certainly does not sound particularly complimentary.
