Today the word I like (bc I was reminded of it) is stunod. (pronounced stew-nod)

It is Italian dialect for a dummy or someone who is always one step behind, likely from the Italian "stonato" which means out of tune. I grew up with this word but had not used it for years.

I was reminded of it bc my DH was man-splaining something to me and I said, "I know that; I am not a stunod.

Looked it up and learned it's source.

Here is a favorite aphorism:

It is better to have and not need
Than to need and not have.

This such an unusual English word. I don’t think I’ve ever had the occasion to speak it.

I think you might have to be a bit of a drama queen to use it.

It's French, or at least derived from a French word.
