Ah, reminiscent of Emily Litella.

English is not being taught by qualified teachers anymore, so everything and everyone is way too laxed in communications. Also, there is no one correcting our little ones.
Get off the cellphones and into English classrooms. Read some good literature for pete's sake!

You are absolutely correct about modern electronic communications being one of the factors leading to poor English usage nowadays.
In fact, the use of those devices might actually lead to the use of non-words, such as, "laxed".

Good one!

Perhaps somewhat related to that pun, many years ago, I was questioned by a police detective who was investigating a possible case of molestation involving one of my male counselees. The detective (stupidly, I thought) revealed who the prime suspect was, and then stated, "We think that he is homogeneous".
So, from of a potentially tragic situation, at least I did get a chuckle.

Incidentally, the "homogeneous" suspect turned out not to be the perpetrator, which made it even more outrageous that the detective revealed the guy's name to me.

P.S.--In case anyone is wondering why I mentioned that situation in an almost jocular tone, it turned out that the boy was engaging in some..."experimentation" with one of his classmates, and, despite his mother's worst fears, he had not been molested by anyone.

Here is another one that I dredged-up from my memory bank.
I used to have a boss who, after eating a very large meal, would announce, "I really gouged myself".

While I never verbalized it, I was always tempted to say something along the lines of..."If you are using your knife and fork properly, you shouldn't be gouging yourself!". Obviously, he meant to say, "gorging myself".

I have a paper due for a Sociology class and the written instructions our professor gave us inform us we must site our sources.
Sight, site, cite, always fun.

The fact that the professor wrote it that way is depressing.

If you ever make it to Tombstone and visit the OK Corral site, if you have good sight you will see a sign concerning the gunfight starting out by stating: On this sight...

Shoot me now.

Ah, bad reference.
