Here's a good one!

I was watching an episode of Judge Judy (my guilty pleasure!) on my DVR, and the plaintiff was trying to explain to Judge Judy how she had tooken some money out of her bank account!

Why do people always say "general consensus" when consensus will do? Isn't it redundant?

But yes, it does sound smarter, I agree.

Yes, it is similar to saying "close proximity."

It is also somewhat similar to saying PIN Number (which means, literally, Personal Identification Number Number), or ATM Machine (Automatic Teller Machine Machine).
For some reason, people seem to like redundancy, or to not recognize it.

Also...why do people refer to their Hot Water Heater?
If the water is already hot, why would you need to heat it?
It's a water heater, folks!

For the past month or so, Verizon has been running a TV commercial for their FIOS internet service, and I find one particular part of the commercial to be particularly annoying.

Mother, father, and two young daughters all extol the virtues of FIOS for the many computers and tablets that they utilize in their home. I am sure that FIOS is a superior ISP, but it absolutely grates on my nerves every time that the youngest daughter exclaims that, "You should totally get it".

I should "totally get it"?
As opposed to partially getting it?

That one drives me crazy, as does "past experience".

Is that different from "future experience" ?

(After all, we live in an eternal present)

Most likely overuse of the word "totally" goes back to Valley Girl Speak. Urban Dictionary: totally

Like, totally, man!

How about that?
I was able to use three of the most overused/misused/unnecessary words in one (non) sentence!

I used to work with a teacher who fancied himself as quite a hipster, despite his being of...let's just say...an advanced age. This hipster poseur insisted on addressing everyone--including women--as, "man".

On a few occasions, I did ask if he was aware that he had been speaking to a woman, and he just gave me a confused look each time that I asked. I think that he had been inserting his favorite verbal affectation into conversations for so long, that he wasn't even aware of what he was saying.

Hmmm...On second thought, I think that ATM actually stands for Automated Teller Machine.
Sorry for the mistake!
