At least that usage is better than the very prevalent substitution (in the Southern US and perhaps in the Midwest) of, "borrow", instead of, "lend", or, "loan".
More often than not, people from the Southern states will say, "I borrowed him some money", when they actually loaned money to someobody.
How did the meaning of, "borrow", become totally reversed in some parts of the country?
(Actually, most of those folks probably say that they, "borried him some money", but that is a topic for another thread, I suppose.)
I heard someone say his friend borrowed him some money on Judge Judy once. She tore him apart.
Here is another one that I have observed recently in CD's automotive forum:
It appears that some people now substitute the word, "worse", for the word, "worst".
One thread asked, "What is the worse car you ever owned?", and another thread asked forum members to post examples of "the worse drivers you have seen"...or something to that effect.
Could this type of mistake be the result of auditory problems (people who can't hear the hard, "T", sound at the end of, "worst")?
How else could you explain this mistake that even 10 year old children would not have made years ago?
Edited to add:
It's apparently proliferating!
In a different (non-CD) automotive forum, somebody posted the following sentence:
"I pulled over expecting the worse but saw no apparent damage..."
While the remainder of that person's writing was acceptable, he/she seems to be one more example of a person nowadays who does not know of the existence of the word, "worst". I find this to be absolutely amazing.

I read and hear it constantly, and from educated people no less. I don't understand why but it does seem as if it is proliferating. I find it annoying and disappointing.
... and we will see posts here on CD from people asking when their tax returns will arrive.
