I overheard this today at a sporting event I was attending. One man allowed another to go in front if him in a concession line. Then he explained, "I'm one of those self-defecating people."

Yes, that is redundant, but, compared to so many other errors that I see daily in newspapers and on signs, this one seems rather minor. However, sayulita is correct, and something like, "added extra dates", would have been preferable.

The redundancy is indeed what bothered me in that sentence.
I agree that it's not the worst thing ever written, but it sounds weird and definitely looks lazy to me.

I can't believe it - as I drive around the streets where I live there are way too many signs with some form of that "possessive/plural" nonsense. "Fresh Burrito's," "Home Made Salsa's," "Come try our hand made burger's." I really don't remember seeing this error when I was younger - and I was much more cognizant of spelling errors back then.
What has happened? Are our schools really getting to be that bad? Newspaper articles are full of typos and grammatical mistakes, not to mention the online articles that are rife with errors.
I suppose it won't be long before everyone will communicate via "chatspeak."
