I wonder I sometimes a misspelling based on a spoken word is because it is closer to what the person writing it thinks is the meaning of the word.
This is a CD example from yesterday : hyperbold.
I noticed that one over and over again from said poster.
I was going to point out his mistake, but the more I read it, the funnier it got, so I just left it alone.
How about only seeing what you expect to be reading and not what's there?
I had to read that three times before 'seeing' what you were referring to.
In my defense, I was looking for a misspelling.
I commented on that mistake MANY pages back, but for the benefit of those who don't want to wade through hundreds of pages, I will repeat it:
Many years ago, I worked for a high school principal who fancied himself to be quite the intellectual. In almost any conversation with him, you would hear him utter, "That is a mute point".
However, the funniest of his gaffes--which he once uttered at a faculty meeting--was, "That is a fiat accompli".
After the meeting, one of the younger teachers asked me what he was talking about, and I responded, "Oh, Mr. O'Malley just bought a small Italian car equipped with every possible option, and he was bragging about it".
Unfortunately, her sarcasm detector was not working properly, so I believe that this young woman walked away from our conversation even more confused than she had been previously.

Let him look stupid.
When mistakes like this, which are obviously not simple typos, are made by someone that is quite pompous about how smart they are, it is especially funny.
Years ago when I served on a condo council we had a very good president who lacked in verbal/written skills. She was in the middle of a debate with a homeowner when she kept shouting: That's a mute point!
Kinda lost all credibility in my eyes.
